returning in style

[Leo had it planned out, honest to Zeus. Things just didn't go as planned, okay?

When he decided to sacrifice himself to save everyone, he had accounted for everything. Or what he thought was everything.

He had come up with a way to survive, a way to get to Calypso, even a way to get back home. He had stored away some drachmas, a map, even a few snacks for the ride home, but there was some.. er... unfortunate incidents, in the first city they came to. Needless to say, Festus falling out of the sky wasn't exactly how he had thought the first part of the trip home would go. Nor was getting chased from their camp by monsters. Or the troll under the bridge that thought it was funny to go around pantsing people-- seriously, who even thought that was funny anymore???

Needless to say, everything he had planned so carefully for was gone quickly in a rather unfortunately string of events. And for that reason, getting in touch with camp wasn't so easy. To be honest, getting anything was pretty rough. The cities they started in weren't exactly English speaking, so he was kind of fumbling along when it came to figuring out just where they were, but more importantly, when they were.

Leo knew he could've asked, could've found a newspaper, looked at a tv-- something.

But he was too afraid to. What if Calypso had been right? What if he had been gone years?

He didn't know what he would do, if they got back to camp and the people he cared so much for that he died-- if they were long gone, dead themselves. The idea hurt too much to even consider, so he pushed the thought far, far away, determined to believe he had only been away for a few short weeks.

Plus or minus the weeks it took to get back. Festus was still in pretty rough shape, so they had to take days off here and there for him to do repairs. Calypso helped, and just being with her, working.. it kept his mind busy as the fear and panic tried crept closer and closer as they made their way back. He detoured when possible, taking time to show Calypso the sights, enjoying her happiness at seeing the world.

But as much as he could put off his return, he couldn't run away forever; he had learned that the hard way this past year.

As the familiar hills appeared, with the lake and the strawberry fields, Leo couldn't help but hold his breath. He was so happy to be home, and he'd be lying if he said otherwise. But that fear was there. He had lost too much already, if his friends were gone too--

No. No, he couldn't think like that. He knew better. So he took a deep breath, and did what he did best: he made an entrance.

Anyone at camp would find their afternoon interrupted with the sound of-- fireworks? Leo had hooked up way more fireworks than anyone with his knack for explosives should be allowed to handle to Festus, and set them off just as they made their way in. He also made handy use of the new speaker system he had put in his dragon, allowing him to announce his arrival as Festus landed on the shore, just in case someone hadn't noticed by then.

"DUN DUN DUN DAAAAAAA~ THAT'S RIGHT, YOUR EYES AREN'T LYING. LEO'S BACK FROM THE DEAD, BABY!"
