returning in style
[Leo had it planned out, honest to Zeus. Things just didn't go as planned, okay?
When he decided to sacrifice himself to save everyone, he had accounted for everything. Or what he thought was everything.
He had come up with a way to survive, a way to get to Calypso, even a way to get back home. He had stored away some drachmas, a map, even a few snacks for the ride home, but there was some.. er... unfortunate incidents, in the first city they came to. Needless to say, Festus falling out of the sky wasn't exactly how he had thought the first part of the trip home would go. Nor was getting chased from their camp by monsters. Or the troll under the bridge that thought it was funny to go around pantsing people-- seriously, who even thought that was funny anymore???
Needless to say, everything he had planned so carefully for was gone quickly in a rather unfortunately string of events. And for that reason, getting in touch with camp wasn't so easy. To be honest, getting anything was pretty rough. The cities they started in weren't exactly English speaking, so he was kind of fumbling along when it came to figuring out just where they were, but more importantly, when they were.
Leo knew he could've asked, could've found a newspaper, looked at a tv-- something.
But he was too afraid to. What if Calypso had been right? What if he had been gone years?
He didn't know what he would do, if they got back to camp and the people he cared so much for that he died-- if they were long gone, dead themselves. The idea hurt too much to even consider, so he pushed the thought far, far away, determined to believe he had only been away for a few short weeks.
Plus or minus the weeks it took to get back. Festus was still in pretty rough shape, so they had to take days off here and there for him to do repairs. Calypso helped, and just being with her, working.. it kept his mind busy as the fear and panic tried crept closer and closer as they made their way back. He detoured when possible, taking time to show Calypso the sights, enjoying her happiness at seeing the world.
But as much as he could put off his return, he couldn't run away forever; he had learned that the hard way this past year.
As the familiar hills appeared, with the lake and the strawberry fields, Leo couldn't help but hold his breath. He was so happy to be home, and he'd be lying if he said otherwise. But that fear was there. He had lost too much already, if his friends were gone too--
No. No, he couldn't think like that. He knew better. So he took a deep breath, and did what he did best: he made an entrance.
Anyone at camp would find their afternoon interrupted with the sound of-- fireworks? Leo had hooked up way more fireworks than anyone with his knack for explosives should be allowed to handle to Festus, and set them off just as they made their way in. He also made handy use of the new speaker system he had put in his dragon, allowing him to announce his arrival as Festus landed on the shore, just in case someone hadn't noticed by then.
"DUN DUN DUN DAAAAAAA~ THAT'S RIGHT, YOUR EYES AREN'T LYING. LEO'S BACK FROM THE DEAD, BABY!"
[ooc: this is an open free for all for all my lovely HoO peeps! Feel free to throw your fellow demigods here, and have at it when it comes to deciding just how much time has passed~ It can be any, from no time, to years in the future! Thread jacking is welcome, but if you don't want to, be sure to put closed in the subject line! HOPE YOU GUYS ENJOY~]

Now she simply sat on the back of Festus, arms wrapped around Leo and watched as he made his entrance into the world he knew so well. Here was where Percy and his Annabeth were, here was where the people in Leo's stories were. Hopefully returning would set his mind at ease - provided they weren't too late and all his friends were dead just like hers.]

And even after they landed, he didn't move, not right away. People were coming from everyone to come and see, but he couldn't tell if any were familiar. But they were there. They had made it back! He couldn't hide on top of Festus forever.
He sucked in a deep breath, then turned to her, grinning as huge as ever.]
Ready to meet everyone?

Ready.

annabeth bolts outside at the sound of fireworks, wondering what on earth is going on and if maybe ares cabin got in a fight with someone again — when she sees...more like hears their approach. there's a long moment she spends staring with her mouth half-open and eyes dangerously wide and shiny, and then her lips set into a firm line and she makes a beeline for leo.]

["Leo's back"]
[She didn't even question how. Not at first. Of all the demigods, Hazel knew how possible it was to come back to life after a certain amount of time. Granted, Leo had beaten her by about seven decades. Give or take. But still...nearly two years later...]
[Battle instincts of a Spartan Warrior, and she could still barely focus on the events that happened next. At some point, she'd managed to summon her pegasus friend, commanding him to fly her to Long Island. At some later point, she even managed to make it there. Her hair was a mess, her cheeks flushed from prolonged exposure to the rush of wind against her face. Her breathing was slightly heavy, and if she were perfectly honest with herself, she could've bothered to change into something a little nicer than her Camp Jupiter t-shirt and jeans.]
[Thoughts that would all come later, once the burning question on her mind was answered:]
Where is he?

He couldn't be happier. So maybe all of his friends weren't there when he arrived, but they were coming. They were alive. Safe and sound, just like he had prayed.
Calypso was adjusting pretty well, too. Everyone loved her, and she loved everyone. It was perfect, it was everything he could've hoped for her.
And yet, pieces were still missing. He knew his other friends were coming, but he was still anxious to see them. Maybe it didn't feel like two years for him, but for them? Gods, what all had he missed?
He was eating when Hazel arrived. After being on the road for however many weeks it had been, he was very much enjoying a good meal of pizza and french fries. And soda. Couldn't forget his favorite caffeinated beverages. But when he heard the commotion, heard her calling, any and all thoughts of food disappeared and he jumped up from the table.]
Hazel??

[Probably.]
[For once in her life, Hazel neither noticed nor cared. Her eyes zeroed in on his face. Leo's face. And only Leo's face. No more ghosts of her past life. Only the ghost of this one.]
It's true.
[At first, she didn't react. No smile. No glare. Nothing. She could only stare.]
[...at least, until she dashed forward with a speed that would have made Arion proud. It was pure battle instinct, only in this time, instead of attacking, she...well, okay, it was still basically an attack. Her arms wrapping around his neck so tightly that air might have been an issue, pulling him close.]
